Can classic sounds also be a breath of fresh air? Download UK soul singer Daley’s “Those Who Wait” mixtape after checking out the clips below then decide for yourself. Daley’s foundation is clearly rooted in contemporary R&B which is generally not my taste but his sound and exceptional songwriting makes this EP more than worth a few listens for me. He’s worked with Angie Stone, Estelle and Gorillaz and covered artists from Maxwell to Madonna.
This duet with Marsha Ambrosius might have replaced Cee-lo and Melanie Fiona as the best one I’ve heard in recent memory.
Not sure how this didn’t make the mixtape.
Morris Day with a dash of Mint Condition.
After listening to these samples I’m ready to add this to my collection.
New music from New Zealand soul collective Electric Wire Hustle is at the very top of my wish list for 2011. Their self titled album has been getting regular rotation from me since it came out last summer. I can’t say that I’ve heard anything quite like it. It sounds like a jam session with Marvin Gaye, J Dilla and Sade’s band. CRAZY. Did I mention these dudes are from New Zealand? While I can’t say the video for “Perception” is new, it’s new to me and that’s just as good. Check out the videos below then do yourself a huge favor and get the album.
